The famous Malayalam writer and the Orator, Dr. Sukumar Azhikode passed away at Amala Hospital, Thrissur. He was diagnosed with Bone cancer and was under treatment since last December.

His condition got worsened on Saturday and he was shifted to Intensive care Unit and today morning at 6.33 his doctors pronounced his death. His funeral will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at Payamabalam beach.

He retired as the Pro-vice Chancellor of Calicut University in 1986. He won 12 awards including the Sahitya Academy Award. He refused to accept Padma Shri award in 2007 on the grounds that such honours are against the constitution.

Juhi Parmar has won the most controversial reality show Bigg Boss season 5. Of the 5 finalists, Juhi and Mahek Chahal have reached the last round of the show pushing the other three men, Sky, Siddharth, and Amar, out of the last rounds. Juhi Parmar defeated Mahek Chahal to win the title and she is the second female contestant to win the title. Even though Mahek made a wild card entry into show after she was evicted two weeks before the grand finale, she couldn’t win the title.

India’s biggest carmaker Maruti Suzuki Ltd is stepping into the world of Multipurpose Vehicle with the launch of their new product Ertiga. Once it hits the Indian roads, it will be a competitor for Toyota’s best selling Innova. This MPV has a passenger capacity of seven in three rows. It is available in petrol and diesel. The front looks like a Swift and the rear looks like Ritz. In fact, Ertiga is an extended form of Swift Ritz. It is even good for the city drive since Ertiga has the length of Swift Dzire. Petrol model offers 16.02 Km/Litre in ideal test conditions and could deliver 10-12 Km in city roads. Diesel model offers 20.77 Km/Litre in test drive and could deliver 14-15 Kms in city drive.

“The Ertiga brings space and compactness to utility vehicle customers in India. It will create a new compact MPV segment in India,” Shinzo Nakanishi, managing director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki Ltd said.

Experts expects it to be priced around Rs. 10-11 lakh while the company promised that Ertiga will be attractively priced. The company is expecting to sell Ertiga in Indian markets in April this year.

The shocking incident which took away the lives of about 90 human beings, most of them who had come there for getting their illness cured and some who were taking care of the sick. We do not think about the reason unless and until an incident like this happens. Now after this incident the Chief Minister of Delhi, has ordered an inspection of fire safety measures in the hospitals in Delhi. What about other big buildings? Are they safe? Are they inspected periodically which should be done by relevant departments?

AMRI Hospitals is a private hospital chain owned by the Emami & shrachi group. The management could be influential and could get away with the inspection authorities. In India we need to implement rules and regulations without any compromise. We see that people who are powerful can get away with any damm thing that they do. They do things to run their business to make money in a faster and easy way. We have rules but we do not have strong people who do not care about politicians and officials who try to break the rules.

Do you think that we have learnt lessons? No, we had such incidents in the past and we will see such in the future. We should fight with our corrupt system and have laws to punish the culprits.
